Network Changes FAQs

  • Who is responsible for the decision for First Bus withdrawal from Cornwall?

The decision to withdraw operation from Cornwall sits with First Bus. The services are operated commercially by First Bus and are not subsidised by Cornwall Council.

  • Where do First operate services in Cornwall?

First predominantly operate in mid and west Cornwall linking St Austell, Truro, Falmouth, Helston, St Ives, Penzance, Camborne, Pool and Redruth. The full list of impacted services is:

M6, T1, T2, U1, U2, U4, 1, 1A, 17, 17A, 24, 27, 29 and 87

  • What funding does Cornwall Council give to First Buses in Cornwall?

With the exception of Truro Park & Ride, First Bus does not operate any local bus services under contract to or subsidised by Cornwall Council. They operate their services on a commercial basis, therefore relying on fares revenue to maintain their sustainability.

  • What will happen after 14 February 2026?

Cornwall will see a Local Bus network change on 15th February. This will include the introduction of some new commercial services by Go Cornwall Bus to fill the gaps left by First Bus. It is important to note that their new services are not intended to replicate the current First Bus network which was cited as financially unsustainable by First Bus.

This new network offers a good foundation with all communities remaining served, albeit at times via alternative stops or an adjusted frequency and timings.

  • Can I still use Transport for Cornwall tickets I purchased on the First app after 14th February?

Yes, you will be able to. In Cornwall, all tickets are interoperable meaning all Transport for Cornwall operators accept each others tickets. You will be able to use existing First Bus products for as long as they are valid but you will not be able to purchase any new Cornwall products on the First Bus app after 14th February.

Concessionary bus passes will continue to be accepted as usual by all operators.

  • Where do I purchase my tickets from after 14th February?

Please visit the Transport for Cornwall website www.transportforcornwall.co.ukor the Transport for Cornwall app where you will find all ticket products.

  • I travel to school on a First Bus service with a Cornwall Council pass- what will I do?

Until February 14th (half term break), you will continue to travel on your current service. Nearer the time, Cornwall Council will issue a new bus pass with updated service details to commence after the February half term.

Please contact [email protected] if you have not received a new pass by Monday 16th February.

  • When will I be able to view new timetables?

Timetables for 15th February onwards are all available at Plan your future journeys: February network information is now available - Transport for Cornwall

  • Will there still be a timetable book?

Yes, there will be a Transport for Cornwall timetable book available from 9th February. This will be available from Bus Stations, Libraries, Tourist Information and Visitor Centres.

There will also be a Network Map leaflet available ahead of 15th February.

  • Will bus stop information be updated?

Yes, all roadside information at bus stops and bus stations will be updated ahead of the network change date to reflect the new timetable details.

  • Will any bus station facilities be affected?

Bus Stations will remain open throughout this period of change.

  • Will Truro Park and Ride be affected?

Truro Park and Ride operates under contract to Cornwall Council and will continue to operate. A new operator will take on the service from Monday 16th February but there will be no changes to fares, routes or timetables.

  • How do I purchase a ticket for the Park and Ride?

You can still buy tickets on the bus or from the customer hosts in the building using cash or card. To buy a ticket bundle, please visit www.transportforcornwall.co.uk where you will find all tickets for purchase.

All existing Park and Ride products that you have purchased via the First Bus app will remain accessible and valid on the First Bus app for the life of that product.

  • Might there be some initial service disruption?

Yes, there may be some initial disruption. With First Bus ceasing service and withdrawing from their bus station sites on 14th February and Go Cornwall Bus launching their services the following day, we would encourage all customers to check the Transport for Cornwall website and app before travelling.

The team at Go Cornwall Bus have been working very hard to ensure customer continuity and to minimise any disruptions across the network from the 15th February.

  • How can I give feedback on these changes?

We welcome all feedback on the new Local Bus network.
