Go Cornwall Bus Customer Information Statement
Today
Go Cornwall Bus is advising customers that their travel plans may be affected by industrial action being taken by members of the RMT union from Friday 2 October.
At this stage, we do not know precisely how, when or where any disruption may occur. The industrial action is in the form of a work-to-rule, meaning the impact on services may vary and may be difficult to predict in advance.
While not every Go Cornwall Bus employee is involved in the industrial action, some disruption remains possible. Customers should therefore allow extra time for travel and check for the latest service information before they travel.
Our priority is to minimise disruption and keep Cornwall moving. We know that many people rely on our buses every day to get to work, school, college, appointments and other important commitments, and we will do everything reasonably possible to maintain services for our customers and communities.
We will provide updates through the Go Cornwall Bus app, website and social media channels as the situation develops. Because the impact of the action may change during the day, customers are strongly encouraged to check the latest travel information right up until their planned departure time.
We are also working closely with Cornwall Council to help ensure schools across the county are kept informed, enabling parents, students and schools to access the latest available information.
The dispute relates to trade union recognition arrangements within the business and is not about pay, jobs, or terms and conditions.
We are sorry that the situation has reached this point. Despite efforts to find a way forward, there remains a stalemate. The company has recently engaged ACAS to help facilitate discussions and remains committed to working towards a constructive resolution.
Richard Stevens, Managing Director of Go South West, said:
"Our focus is firmly on our customers. We understand the uncertainty this may cause, particularly for parents, students and those who rely on our services every day, and we are sorry for the inconvenience.
We do not yet know exactly how this action may affect services, but we will do everything reasonably possible to minimise disruption and keep customers informed.
We are working closely with Cornwall Council to help keep schools across the county updated and ensure families have access to the latest information available.
We remain committed to finding a resolution through dialogue and ACAS-supported discussions. In the meantime, our teams will continue working hard to keep Cornwall moving and provide customers with timely updates through our app, website and social media channels."
