Go Cornwall Bus begins operating former First services across Cornwall
Today
Go Cornwall Bus began operating yesterday a number of bus routes across Cornwall previously run by First Bus, following First’s planned withdrawal from the county.
The transition has been delivered through close joint working between Cornwall Council, Go Cornwall Bus and local communities, with the shared aim of ensuring people across Cornwall continue to have access to essential local bus services.
As part of the changeover, Go Cornwall Bus, working as part of Transport for Cornwall, has taken on responsibility for these services within a revised network arrangement. While many routes and journey patterns will remain familiar, the former First Bus network has not been replicated like-for-like, and some changes to routes, timetables and frequencies have been introduced.
These changes have been developed to maintain strong accessibility for communities, major employment sites, education, health services and key destinations across the county, while supporting the continued operation of a countywide bus network.
Passengers are strongly encouraged to use the Transport for Cornwall Journey Planner to check the latest service information and plan future journeys with confidence, particularly where services may differ from previous arrangements.
Richard Stevens, Managing Director at Go Cornwall Bus, said:
“We’re pleased to be taking on the operation of these services and to be working closely with Cornwall Council during this important transition. We know how essential bus services are to everyday life, and our focus is on operating the network as reliably as possible while supporting passengers through the change.”
Transport for Cornwall will continue to monitor services and work with Go Cornwall Bus and local communities closely.
Up-to-date timetables, service changes and journey planning tools are available on the Transport for Cornwall website.
